La Luna es el único satélite natural de la Tierra. Con un diámetro ecuatorial de 3474 km1 es el quinto satélite más grande del Sistema Solar. La Luna es el único cuerpo celeste en el que el ser humano ha realizado un descenso tripulado.
La luna mantiene dos movimientos de forma continuada. Aparte de miles de datos técnicos que se podrían dar sobre ella ya que es científicamente muy estudiada y explorada, nadie puede negar que hay algo mágico en ella. Su luz, su color plata, su belleza o el efecto que puede causar en algunas personas. Hay muchas opiniones al respecto, sobre si la luna es capaz o no de alterar el comportamiento humano. Después de muchos años de especulaciones lo que si se ha confirmado científicamente es que hay una correlación entre las fases de la luna y los ritmos biológicos del ser humano durante el sueño
Es difícil que coincidan eclipse total, Superluna y segunda Luna llena del mes, llamada en algunos medios estadounidenses Luna azul que nada tiene que ver con su color. Pues bien, este pasado mes de Enero, el mes se ha cerrado con esta Superluna en todas sus coincidencias. Los cálculos indican que no se producía desde 1982, pero debe entenderse solo como una curiosa coincidencia. No ha tenido ninguna implicación diferente -ni positiva ni negativa- para nuestro Planeta y, desde el punto de vista astronómico, el mayor interés ha residido en las observaciones y medidas tomadas durante el transcurso del eclipse total.
